Chapter 15 - The Final Ledger

Eleanor’s gloved hand gently stroked the yellowed cover of the ledger resting on the wooden table, her expression one of supreme, untouchable power.

"You're too late, Eleanor," Julian said, his voice ringing with hard-won defiance as he stepped protectively in front of Clara. "The federal prosecutors already have copies of the patent pool records. The assets are frozen."

Eleanor let out a soft, dry laugh, shaking her head as if dealing with an ignorant child. "Prosectors, Julian? Do you really believe the justice system moves faster than capital? The moment the asset freeze was announced, my legal team initiated a Chapter 11 restructuring that places every single cent of the patent pool into an overseas blind trust under a different jurisdiction."

Clara stepped out from behind Julian, her eyes locking onto Eleanor’s with absolute calm. She didn't look terrified anymore; she looked like a woman who had finally reached the end of a long, dark tunnel and could see the open horizon.

"You forgot one small detail, Eleanor," Clara said, her voice steady and crystal clear in the tense room.

Eleanor raised an eyebrow, her smile faltering just a fraction. "And what might that be, my dear?"

"A blind trust requires a living beneficiary to authorize disbursements," Clara replied, reaching into her coat pocket and pulling out a small, encrypted digital drive—the one David Chen had managed to salvage from the original corporate server before turning himself in. "And the legal beneficiary of that trust isn't a Vance holding company. It's the Thomas Hayes Estate, represented exclusively by me."

Eleanor’s face went entirely blank. She glanced down at the remote detonator in her hand, then back up at Clara. "You're bluffing."

"Am I?" Clara asked, tapping the screen of her phone, which was synced directly to the federal prosecutor's secure portal. "The moment you initiated the Chapter 11 restructuring, it triggered an automated verification protocol with the international banking registry. The funds didn't go to your blind trust, Eleanor. They bounced right back into the primary account—the one that requires my biometric signature to unlock."

Before Eleanor could react, the heavy rumble of engines echoed from outside the safehouse. Red and blue emergency lights flashed brilliantly through the grimy windows, reflecting off the metal walls as a dozen federal marshals poured through the ruined doorway, weapons drawn and directed not at Clara and Julian, but straight at Eleanor and her tactical team.

"Eleanor Vance, you're under arrest for international securities fraud, corporate identity theft, and obstruction of justice," the lead federal agent announced, stepping forward with a pair of steel handcuffs ready.

Eleanor stood frozen for a long, agonizing moment, her gaze darting from the federal agents to the digital drive in Clara’s hand. Slowly, without a single word of protest, she lowered her arms and let the cuffs snap shut around her wrists.
