Chapter 1 - The Shattered Silence

The heavy mahogany doors of the grand ballroom loomed behind Julian, their ornate carvings choked by drooping white hydrangeas and crimson rose petals that now felt less like a celebration and more like a crime scene. Elena stood frozen beside the flower altar, her white lace wedding dress pooling around her satin shoes like a shroud of unspun snow. Her brown hair, tightly pinned back for a day that was supposed to be perfect, had begun to fray at the temples, mirroring the absolute unraveling of her composure. Across the aisle, seven-year-old Lily clutched a sleek black smartphone against her white tulle dress like it was a live grenade. The child’s light brown hair was messy, her small shoulders heaving with genuine, quiet sobs that tore through the stifling silence of the hall.
"I know what you did," Lily sobbed, her voice trembling with a terrifying childish conviction that carried too much weight for her years.
Elena lunged forward, her fingers trembling as she reached blindly toward the child. "Lily, baby, give me that phone right now. You don't understand what you're looking at. Please, put it down."
"Don't touch me!" Lily cried out, shrinking backward until she hit the heavy wooden pew. "You're bad. The screen said it. You lied to everyone."
Julian burst through the doorway, his black tuxedo jacket flying open as he sprinted down the aisle, his breathing ragged and shallow. He dropped to his knees on the carpeted floor beside Lily, his dark eyes wide with frantic panic. Without a word to Elena, he gently pried the cold metal device from the girl's trembling fingers, his thumb accidentally brushing the glowing glass.
Elena watched from the background, her eyes wide and hollow, absolute terror draining the last vestiges of color from her cheeks. The air in the room felt thick, suffocating, poisoned by secrets.
Julian stared down at the brightly lit display, his breath hitching violently in his throat as his pupils contracted to tiny pins.
He looked up at Elena, his face pale and twisted with betrayal, before looking back down at the device. In a voice barely above a whisper, he read the glowing words aloud to the empty hall:
May you like
"Why did you stop the wedding? I'm already upstairs."
