"What did Blake do?" Clara asked, her eyes sharp.
"His mother’s attorneys attempted to file an ex-parte emergency custody injunction in Oakhaven County court at 5:00 PM yesterday, claiming you were a danger to the child due to medical neglect and psychiatric instability," Arthur said, opening his file.
Clara’s hands tightened around her tea cup. "They tried to claim neglect after they refused to call an ambulance?"
"They didn't know Dr. Sterling had already filed a mandatory 51A child endangerment report with the State Department of Children and Families," Arthur smiled grimly. "Sterling’s clinical notes document that you walked three miles on gravel with lacerated feet to seek medical intervention, while Victoria Vance actively obstructed emergency care by withholding your communications device."
"Will the judge grant their motion?"
"Not a chance in hell," Arthur said firmly. "The judge in Boston just issued a temporary emergency protective order. Blake and Victoria are legally prohibited from coming within five hundred feet of Oliver, this hospital, or any residence you establish. Full physical and legal custody has been temporarily assigned to you pending a formal hearing."
Arthur pulled out a second document: a certified financial affidavit.
"And regarding your personal assets," Arthur continued. "The trust your grandfather established for you before your marriage remains fully intact. You have thirty thousand dollars in independent liquid capital. You are not trapped, Clara. You have never been trapped."
