Chapter 12 - Face to Face

The heavy mahogany door of the private office clicked open, and the blonde influencer stepped inside. The transformation was staggering. The arrogant, untouchable social media star who had screamed threats across the marble counter just hours earlier was completely gone. In her place stood a broken, disheveled woman with smeared makeup, wet hair, and red, swollen eyes. She kept her gaze fixed firmly on the floor, unable or unwilling to meet the cold, unblinking stares awaiting her.
“Shut the door, Marcus,” Arthur commanded in a low, flat voice that echoed sharply within the confines of the mahogany-paneled room.
The click of the latch sounded like a gavel falling in a courtroom. The influencer trembled slightly, clutching her empty hands together as she stood near the edge of the Persian rug, stranded in the middle of the office like an accused criminal facing a tribunal.
Mia remained standing by the mahogany desk, her posture relaxed yet impeccably composed. She wore her crisp white shirt and tan apron—she hadn’t even bothered to remove her work uniform before coming upstairs, as if to deliberately emphasize the stark contrast between their positions.
“You... you wanted to see me,” the influencer choked out, her voice raspy, stripped of its previous digital bravado. She finally lifted her head, looking up with a pathetic, desperate pleading in her eyes. “Mia... please. You saw what happened out there. My accounts are permanently suspended. My sponsors have all vanished. My entire life’s work has been erased in less than a day. They’re calling me a fraud across every platform on the internet.”
“Your accounts weren't erased by us, ma’am,” Mia replied, her voice remarkably even, devoid of any cruelty or triumph. “They were erased by the truth. You chose to build a castle out of manufactured outrage and public humiliation, and the moment a real breeze hit it, the foundation collapsed.”
“I’ll apologize!” the woman sobbed, taking a desperate half-step forward before Marcus casually shifted his weight beside the door, blocking her advance. “I’ll post a public video confessing to everything! I’ll tell my remaining followers that you were entirely in the right! Just... please, ask your grandfather to drop the defamation lawsuit. If that lawsuit goes through, I’ll be bankrupt. I won't even be able to pay my rent.”
Arthur leaned forward in his leather armchair, resting both hands heavily on the curved handle of his wooden cane. The silence in the room stretched out, agonizingly long and heavy, before the patriarch finally spoke.
“When you walked into my cafe this morning,” Arthur began, his voice dropping an octave into a chilling, measured cadence, “you didn't just spill a cup of coffee. You attempted to destroy a young woman’s future because you felt inconvenienced. You weaponized your digital footprint to crush someone you considered beneath you.”
The influencer broke down completely, burying her face in her hands as silent, shaking sobs racked her body. “I learned my lesson... I swear I did...”

“Lessons learned without consequences are just expensive reminders,” Arthur concluded coldly. “The lawsuit proceeds as planned. However...” He paused, raising a single finger to catch her attention. “My granddaughter has one final condition.”
