Chapter 8: The Interrogation Room

The harsh fluorescent lights of the federal precinct interrogation room hummed overhead. Julian sat handcuffed to a stainless-steel table, his dark blue suit now hopelessly wrinkled, his tie loosened and askew. Across from him sat Special Agent Miller and a federal prosecutor named Vance—no relation, but equally relentless.
“Let’s review the offshore wire transfers one more time, Mr. Vance,” Agent Miller said, sliding a thick stack of certified bank documents across the table. “These funds were routed through shell companies registered in your name, using your personal biometric security keys.”
Julian kept his eyes fixed on the metal table, his jaw clenched so hard his teeth ached. He refused to speak, knowing that any word he uttered could be used to seal his fate. His legal team was gone, his assets were frozen, and his brother held the original deeds. He was entirely checkmated.
“Your silence isn't protecting you anymore, Julian,” the prosecutor added quietly. “Your wife—excuse me, your ex-wife—has already provided sworn testimony detailing how you forced her to sign fraudulent compliance documents under threat of financial ruin.”
Julian’s head snapped up, his eyes burning with fury. “She’s a liar! She engineered the whole thing! She seduced me, married me, and played the long game to steal my empire!”
“The financial audit began eighteen months before you married her, Mr. Vance,” Miller noted dryly, flipping a page. “She was undercover within your compliance department long before you ever noticed her. You brought the wolf into your penthouse yourself.”
Julian slumped back into his metal chair, the crushing weight of reality finally breaking through his impenetrable ego. He had spent his entire life believing he was the master manipulator, only to discover he had been the pawn in a much larger game designed by the very woman he had underestimated.
Outside the interrogation room, standing behind the one-way mirror, Eleanor watched him break. She wore a tailored black trench coat over her silk dress, her expression entirely neutral. Marcus stood beside her, holding a tablet displaying real-time market updates.
“The board has officially voted to restructure Vance Global,” Marcus whispered to her. “They’re reinstating the original employee pension funds and liquidating the luxury assets to pay back the defrauded investors.”
Eleanor nodded slowly. “And Julian?”
“Federal penitentiary minimum security for white-collar crimes,” Marcus replied. “He’ll be facing at least ten to fifteen years without parole.”
Eleanor turned away from the glass, her heart finally free of the heavy anchor she had carried for years. But as she walked down the precinct hallway toward the exit, her phone buzzed with an unknown text message containing a single, chilling photograph.
