Chapter 8: The Power of Truth**

The public reaction to Julian’s impromptu press conference was immediate and overwhelming.
Instead of collapsing Vance Global’s market credibility, the honest admission of corporate error paired with decisive philanthropic correction sent consumer confidence soaring. Videos of Julian standing alone on his front steps, speaking plainly about ethics and human responsibility, went viral across every major social platform.
In the corporate offices downtown, Jonathan Sterling sat in his high-back chair, staring in disbelief at the stock ticker on his wall monitor. Vance Global’s shares, which he had shorted heavily in anticipation of a panic, had jumped four points by mid-afternoon trading.
His private phone rang. It was Arthur Pendelton.
"What is happening, Jonathan?" Pendelton demanded, his voice tight with rage. "He turned a security scandal into a public relations victory! The Municipal Contract Commission just publicly commended his transparency."
"I don't understand it," Jonathan stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead. "He didn't use a crisis management firm. He didn't use our prepared statements. He just went out there and told the truth."
"Well, your truth is about to cost us eighty million dollars," Pendelton snapped. "If Julian audits the short positions on the stock before the market closes, he will trace the financial irregulars straight to your offshore accounts. You have until tomorrow morning to make this problem disappear."
Jonathan dropped the phone onto his desk. His hands were shaking. He had underestimated Julian Vance. He had forgotten that Julian was not dangerous because of his wealth—he was dangerous because, when focused, he possessed an iron will that nothing could bend.
