Chapter 14: The Echo of Thunder**

Spring arrived in New York, bringing with it gentle rains and blooming dogwood blossoms along the estate’s winding pathways.
One late evening, a sudden spring thunderstorm rolled over the city. Flashes of lightning lit up the dark corridors of the mansion, followed by the deep, rattling rumble of thunder shaking the high windowpanes.
Julian sat in his study reading a logistics report when the first loud crack rattled the room. Without hesitation, he set his papers aside, stood up, and walked down the dimly lit hallway toward Lily’s bedroom.
Before he could reach the door, it swung open. Lily stepped out into the hall, clutching Barnaby in one hand and a small plush blanket in the other.
She looked up at Julian as another rumble of thunder shook the house. But this time, her eyes were not filled with fear.
"Did the thunder wake you up, little judge?" Julian asked softly, kneeling down to her level.
"No," Lily said, shaking her head. "I came to check on you."
Julian blinked in gentle surprise. "On me?"
"You said before that loud noises make you think of bad things," Lily said with absolute seriousness, reaching out her small arm to drape her blanket over Julian’s shoulder. "I brought Barnaby to protect you."
Julian felt a tear slip silently down his cheek. He reached forward and wrapped his arms around his daughter, pulling her into a tight, warm embrace while the rain drummed softly against the glass above them.

"Thank you, Lily," Julian whispered, his voice cracking with immense gratitude. "I'm not afraid anymore."
