Chapter 15: The Unshakable Foundation**
Three years later, the grand foyer of the Vance mansion remained as majestic as ever, but the atmosphere had fundamentally transformed. The cold, sterile perfection of polished white stone was now softened by warm wool rugs, family portraits, and the joyful noise of everyday life.
Julian stood by the double mahogany doors, fastening the cuffs of his suit jacket as he prepared to leave for the annual Vance Global Ethics Summit. Beside him stood Marcus, holding a tablet with the morning briefing, looking sharp and confident in his executive role.
A pair of quick footsteps echoed down the staircase. Lily, now six years old, came bounding down the steps, wearing her school uniform and a bright yellow backpack covered in star badges.
She skidded to a stop on the marble floor right in front of Julian, planting her feet and crossing her arms in exact imitation of the stance she had taken years ago.
"Stop right there, Mr. Vance," Lily announced with a playful, mischievous grin.
Julian paused, raising his hands in mock surrender while Marcus chuckled behind his tablet. "What seems to be the violation, Officer Lily?"
"You forgot your lunchbox on the kitchen island," Lily said, pulling a neatly packed tin from her backpack and handing it to him. "Elena made turkey sandwiches with extra pickles."
Julian took the lunchbox and bowed gracefully. "A critical oversight. Thank you for keeping order in this house."
He knelt down and kissed her cheek, hugging her warmly before picking up his briefcase. He looked around the sunny, open foyer—the very room where a frightened, cold billionaire had once been brought to his knees by a toddler in pajamas.
"Have a wonderful day at school, sweetheart," Julian smiled.
