THE BILLIONAIRE'S TINY JUDGE / Chapter 1 / 15

Chapter 1: The Defiant Line**

The echo of polished Italian leather against marble died instantly. Julian Vance, a man whose signature could collapse shipping conglomerates before breakfast, stood frozen beneath the glow of the Baccarat chandelier.

Two yards ahead, standing barefoot on the cold, mirror-like floor, stood Lily. She wore star-patterned pink pajamas, her hair gathered into two messy pigtails. Her arms were folded across her chest with an intensity that mocked every high-priced lawyer in Julian’s firm.

"Let him go," Lily repeated, her small voice carrying an unnatural weight through the vaulted rotunda. "Or you’ll have to deal with me."

Behind her, Elena the housekeeper remained on her knees, hands half-raised in terrified apology. "Mr. Vance, forgive me... she slipped out of her bedroom before I could catch her."

Julian didn’t look at Elena. Nor did he look at Marcus, the disgraced head of mansion security who was currently flanked by two imposing bodyguards near the double mahogany entrance. Marcus had been caught red-handed attempting to siphon digital encrypted ledgers from Julian’s private study—a treason that, in Julian’s world, warranted total ruin and immediate quiet removal.

"Lily," Julian murmured, his voice losing the razor edge that had terrified boardrooms for a decade. He took a single, calculated step forward. "This is business. Go back with Elena."

"No," Lily stamped her small foot, the sound sharp against the stone. "Marcus gave me hot cocoa when thunder came. He is not a bad man. You are being mean."

Julian felt a strange tightness seize his chest. For three years since his wife Clara’s passing, he had treated the world like an balance sheet: assets, liabilities, threats. He had isolated Lily inside a golden fortress to keep her safe from the ruthlessness of his life. But in doing so, he had forgotten that a child’s eyes do not read balance sheets. They read hearts.

Julian signaled to his security team with a flick of his index finger. "Step outside. Wait by the gates."

The guards hesitated, but Julian’s glare Broke their resolve. They escorted Marcus to the sitting room, leaving the father and daughter alone in the immense, quiet foyer. Julian dropped down to one knee, bringing his eyes level with Lily’s fierce brown gaze.

"You think you can protect everyone, little one?" Julian asked softly.

"Yes," Lily declared without flinching. "Because someone has to protect them from you."
