Chapter 14: The Whispers in the Nursery**

That night, before the household went to sleep, Arthur walked into the renovated master suite. The old heavy velvet curtains that once blocked the sun had been replaced with airy white linens.

On the mantle above the marble fireplace sat the polished silver platter, reflecting the warm glow of the fire.

Lily came padding into the room in her favorite yellow pajamas, holding a small framed drawing. She climbed onto the armchair beside Arthur and handed him the paper.

It was a crayon drawing of three figures standing under a huge, smiling sun: a tall man with black hair, a little girl with brown curls, and a kind older woman holding a round silver plate that glowed like a shield.

"Do you know why I pointed at Grandma that night, Daddy?" Lily asked quietly, leaning her head against Arthur’s arm.

Arthur looked down at her. "Why, sweetheart?"

"Because when the bad lady was whispering in the dining room, I saw Grandma’s eyes in the mirror," Lily said softly. "Grandma’s eyes were crying, but she wasn't scared of the bad lady. She was holding the silver tray to protect me. Mommy told me in my dream: *'When you're ready to speak, point to the person with Mommy’s eyes.'*"

Arthur swallowed the lump in his throat, pulling his daughter into a tight, protective embrace. "Your mommy was always watching over us, Lily. Always."
