Chapter 10: The Fall of an Empire**

Over the next forty-eight hours, the Sterling scandal exploded across national headlines. The wealthy, aristocratic façade of high society was stripped away, revealing the chilling truth of greed, betrayal, and attempted murder.

The district attorney presented a flawless case. Victoria’s offshore bank accounts were frozen, exposing millions of dollars funneled through shell corporations. Dr. Vance’s medical license was permanently revoked, and he received a twenty-five-year prison sentence for his role as an accessory to homicide and medical malpractice.

Victoria herself faced life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. During her arraignment, she sat stone-faced in an orange jumpsuit, stripped of her designer gowns, pearls, and arrogance. The court room was packed with journalists, but Arthur Sterling never once looked back at her. His focus had entirely shifted away from social prestige and toward the sanctity of his home.

The grand mansion on the hill began to change.

Arthur fired the pretentious PR firms, dismissed the cold, aloof staff who had looked down on Clara for years, and closed the enormous banquet hall. The long mahogany dining table—once a battleground of political dining and cold formalities—was replaced with a warm, sunlit round oak table in the kitchen annex.

The silver platter that had stopped Victoria’s bullet was not melted down or hidden away. Arthur took it to a master silversmith in the city. He had the dent polished, preserving the impact mark of the bullet, and ordered an inscription carved along its gleaming rim:
