“Then it costs millions,” a gruff voice echoed from the back of the boardroom.

Arthur stepped through the door, wearing a clean pressed shirt and slacks. He walked to the front of the room and placed his voting proxy next to Elena’s hand.

“Vanguard was founded on the principle that capital is useless without human dignity,” Arthur addressed the room, his commanding voice silencing every objection. “For thirty years, this company accumulated reserves precisely for times like this. Any board member who values their quarterly bonus over human lives is free to tender their shares to me today at fair market value.”

Not a single investor spoke. They knew Arthur had the liquid capital to buy them out entirely.

That afternoon, Elena walked down to the docks herself, standing on an empty shipping container with a megaphone. She announced Vanguard’s decision directly to three thousand anxious dockworkers.
