Chapter 4: Unraveling the Web

The accusation hung in the smoky air of the back room like a tangible weight. Marcus stumbled back a half-step, his hand twitching nervously near his belt before freezing under the collective glare of forty armed bikers. The room, which had been buzzing with skepticism moments before, now watched with bated breath as the power dynamic shifted decisively toward the young girl sitting quietly at the center of the table. Thomas stepped forward, his massive frame blocking any path to the door, his scarred face twisted into a menacing scowl.
"Is that true, Marcus?" Thomas growled, the sound vibrating deep within his broad chest. "Did you trade the old man's life for a seat at the high table with the Syndicate?" Marcus swallowed hard, sweat beading on his forehead as he realized he had been completely cornered. Instead of answering, he lunged sideways, pulling a concealed firearm from his waistband with desperate speed. But before the barrel could clear leather, two massive bikers flanked him, driving him down onto the wooden floor with brutal, practiced efficiency. The gun skittered across the floorboards toward Lily’s boots.
Lily looked down at the weapon, then slowly raised her eyes back to Marcus, who was pinned facedown in the sawdust, gasping for air under the heavy boots of his former comrades. She did not flinch, nor did she display any childhood terror. "My father taught me that a traitor never acts alone," Lily said softly, her voice carrying clearly across the tense room. "Marcus didn't have the clearance to override the federal wiretaps that night. Someone higher up fed him the codes. Someone who still sits at this table." A wave of uneasy murmurs rippled through the gathered men as they began glancing suspiciously at one another.
Thomas kicked Marcus’s hand away from the dropped pistol and hauled the sputtering lieutenant to his feet by the collar of his leather vest. "Talk, you son of a bitch, or I'll feed you to your own bike chain," Thomas demanded, shaking the larger man like a ragdoll. Marcus, bleeding slightly from a split lip, sneered through his red beard. "You think I'm the only one who wanted out from under Arthur's thumb?" he spat, laughing hysterically. "The old man was steering this club into the ground with his bleeding-heart rules. We wanted profit. We wanted a real empire!"

With a sickening crunch, Thomas delivered a devastating right hook that knocked Marcus unconscious, silencing the confession mid-sentence. The heavy biker slumped into unconsciousness and was dragged out of the room by two enforcers without a word being spoken. The remaining men stood in heavy, suffocating silence. Lily stood up from her chair, her small frame radiating an intense, undeniable authority. She looked around the circle of bearded faces, knowing that the rot went deeper than just one man. The real mastermind was still hidden among them, watching every move she made.
