Chapter 12: Blood and Glass

The shattered crystal glass lay scattered across the pristine marble floor, amber whiskey pooling slowly like fresh blood. Victor Vance stood paralyzed, his sophisticated composure instantly shattering as his eyes locked onto Lily. The physical resemblance was undeniable—the sharp jawline, the piercing dark eyes, and above all, the heavy silver wolf ring gleaming under the recessed ceiling lights. For a full five seconds, the penthouse fell into a suffocating, absolute silence, broken only by the low rumble of distant thunder rolling in across Puget Sound.
"Arthur..." Victor whispered, the name escaping his lips like a terrified gasp of a drowning man. He took a stumbling step backward, his tailored suit jacket shifting as his hand twitched instinctively toward a concealed holster beneath his arm. "No... that's impossible. The fire... the warehouse burned to the ash. You died in Portland!" Victor’s face twisted into an ugly mask of panic and disbelief, sweat breaking out instantly across his forehead. He had spent seven years believing he had successfully purged his family line to seize absolute control of the syndicate.
Lily did not rush forward, nor did she raise her voice. She walked past Thomas with slow, deliberate steps, her boots clicking softly against the marble until she stood ten feet away from her uncle. "You didn't burn him deep enough, Uncle," Lily said, her voice cutting through the silence with chilling, razor-sharp clarity. "He survived long enough to teach me every name, every account, and every betrayal. And he gave me this ring so I would never forget who stole our legacy." Victor swallowed hard, his breathing turning shallow and ragged as he realized the nightmare was entirely real.
Suddenly, Victor’s panic hardened back into cold, calculated survival instinct. A cruel, desperate smirk touched the corners of his mouth as he relaxed his posture. "A nine-year-old girl walking into my penthouse with a scarred thug," Victor sneered, his voice regaining its arrogant edge. "What do you honestly think you're going to do, Lily? Shoot me? Expose me to the police? Every judge, every chief of police, and every federal prosecutor in this state is already on my payroll. You have nothing." He reached into his jacket, his hand darting toward his concealed weapon with lightning speed.

Before Victor’s fingers could clear leather, Thomas moved with terrifying violence. He lunged across the room, tackling Victor hard against the floor-to-ceiling glass window. The reinforced glass cracked with a deafening spiderweb fracture under the sudden impact, holding firm only by a fraction of its structural integrity. Victor gasped for air as Thomas pinned him firmly against the trembling glass, pressing the barrel of his heavy firearm directly beneath Victor’s chin. Lily walked up slowly, stopping just inches away, pulling the encrypted titanium flash drive from her pocket and holding it up for her uncle to see.
