Chapter 6

By Saturday afternoon, the plan had taken precise shape. Nia, Marcus, David, and Maya sat around the low reclaimed-wood table in the studio’s employee break room, mapping out their next move with the calm efficiency of a boardroom meeting.

The strategy was simple: give Chloe enough rope to hang herself legally, while securing all remaining digital evidence before she realized her physical ledger had been discovered.

"She texted me an hour ago," David said, sliding his phone across the table so everyone could see the screen. The text message read: Bring the cash to the studio storage room at 8 PM tonight, or the files go to the press.

Marcus stared at the glowing text, his jaw set in a hard, unyielding line. "She thinks she can extort our clients right inside my building after hours. Absolutely not. I'm calling the police right now."

"Hold on, Marcus," Nia intervened, placing a calm hand over his phone. "If the police walk in cold right now without a secured chain of digital custody, Chloe’s lawyers will claim entrapment or argue that the ledger was planted. We need her to walk into the studio tonight, make the extortion demand on camera, and accept the payment while the physical evidence is locked in your office safe."

Maya nodded in agreement. As an attorney, she understood the legal nuances required to make an airtight case. "Nia is right. Apex Motion’s security system has high-definition audio-visual recording in the main hallway and the storage corridor. If David meets her in the hallway as planned, the cameras will capture the entire exchange crystal clear."

Marcus looked between Nia and Maya, taking a deep, shuddering breath. The thought of a police presence inside his pristine wellness studio made his stomach churn, but the alternative—letting Chloe continue her reign of psychological terror—was infinitely worse.

"Okay," Marcus said softly, his resolve hardening. "We coordinate with the precinct detective I know downtown. I’ll have two plainclothes officers stationed in the mechanical room next door by 7:30 PM. They won't interfere until the transaction is complete and the confession is on tape."

Nia stood up, walking over to the small kitchen counter to pour herself a glass of water. Her movements remained deliberate, grounded, and entirely free of panic. She knew Chloe’s volatile temperament well enough to anticipate that the confrontation wouldn't end with a polite surrender. People who built their entire worlds on manipulation and control rarely went down quietly.

"Make sure the back emergency exit is bolted from the inside," Nia instructed Marcus without turning around. "She likes to slip out the side doors when things don't go her way. Tonight, there’s nowhere left to run."
