Chapter 15: The Road Ahead

Six months later, the morning sun rose over the lush green hills of the Pacific Northwest.

The low, rhythmic rumble of a motorcycle engine echoed down a quiet country road lined with towering pine trees. Hank rode his vintage black cruiser slowly, the crisp morning breeze washing over him. Attached to the side of the bike was a newly built, custom-painted sidecar fitted with safety harnesses and a reinforced windshield.

Sitting inside the sidecar was Mia, wearing a tiny leather jacket, a shiny black helmet, and goggles perched over her bright eyes.

They pulled into the driveway of a cozy farmhouse surrounded by bright yellow sunflowers turning toward the morning light. Clara stood on the front porch waving, holding two mugs of hot chocolate.

Hank cut the engine, setting the kickstand down with a solid click. He reached over and lifted Mia’s helmet visor.

""How was the ride, kiddo?"" Hank asked, smiling down at her.

Mia beamed, her face radiant with pure, unburdened joy. ""It was fast! Can we go again afternoon?""

""Every afternoon,"" Hank promised, unbuckling her harness and helping her out.

Mia wrapped her arms around Hank’s neck, hugging him tight. Hank wrapped his large arms around her, holding her close—no longer guarding against danger, but simply holding onto the family they had built out of courage, trust, and love.

The armor they wore wasn't made of leather or iron. It was made of the promises they kept to one another, and the bright road that lay ahead."
