Chapter 9 - The Grand Ballroom

The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom was a spectacle of crystal chandeliers, flowing champagne, and the city’s financial elite. Julian stood near the center stage, holding a glass of vintage champagne, soaking in the admiration of colleagues and investors. Siera Vance stood a few yards away, radiant in an ice-blue backless dress, wearing the very pearl-and-diamond necklace Emma had discovered on Christmas Eve. Their eyes met across the crowded room, sharing a secret, smug glance of triumph.
Arthur Vance stepped up to the podium. The chatter subsided as the room prepared for the formal announcement of the European expansion. Julian adjusted his jacket, straightening his spine, preparing to walk onto the stage to accept the mantle.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Arthur began, his voice commanding the silence. "Tonight marks a significant turning point for Vance Capital. For months, we have watched talent rise within our ranks, believing that vision and loyalty were the cornerstones of our enterprise."
Julian stepped forward, nodding modestly to several investors who raised their glasses in pre-emptive congratulations.
"However," Arthur continued, his eyes locking directly onto Julian with chilling intensity, "leadership requires transparency. And tonight, I have decided to present a different kind of portfolio."

Behind the podium, the massive projector screen—intended to showcase the new fund’s projections—flickered to life. But it was not a financial chart. It was the high-resolution hotel photograph of Julian and Siera, accompanied by the bank wire receipts bearing the Cayman Islands registration.
