Chapter 7 - The Silent Alliance

Emma had assumed Siera was an ambitious junior associate or an opportunistic socialite. She was wrong. Siera Vance was married to Arthur Vance, the principal stakeholder of Vance Capital—the very private equity titan bankrolling Julian’s upcoming multi-million-dollar fund. Julian wasn't just sleeping with a woman; he was using her to siphon Vance’s capital into his offshore accounts while planning to cut both Arthur and Emma out of the fortune.
Clara arranged the meeting in the quiet, shadowed corner of an old library downtown. Arthur Vance was a man in his late fifties, his silver hair impeccably styled, carrying the quiet authority of old money. He sat across from Emma, looking at the photographs of his wife in the hotel suite, followed by the financial records detailing the theft of his firm's capital.
For five minutes, the only sound was the rustle of paper and the muffled cries of Leo in his stroller. Arthur’s face remained a mask of stone, though a muscle in his jaw twitched with terrifying restraint. Finally, he looked up at Emma.
"Julian thinks he is playing chess while the rest of us play checkers," Arthur spoke, his voice low and devoid of warmth. "He believes Siera loves him. He believes my money is already his." Arthur slid the dossier back toward Clara. "Your husband made a fatal mistake, Mrs. Sterling. He assumed a grieving mother was an easy target."
"I don't care about your money, Arthur," Emma said steadily, meeting his gaze without flinching. "I want my children protected, and I want Julian completely destroyed."

Arthur offered a cold, predatory smile. "Then let us give him the Christmas present he deserves."
