Chapter 5 - The Corporate Bleed

The tiny speaker on Daniel’s phone crackled with static, but Marcus’s words cut through the noise with crystal-clear devastation. The primary asset transfer had already cleared. Millions of dollars in corporate capital and personal investments had vanished into an offshore shell account before the wedding bells had even finished tuning up downstairs.

Daniel stared at the phone in his hand as if it had suddenly transformed into a venomous snake.

“What do you mean it cleared, Marcus? Dual authorization is required for any transfer over one hundred thousand dollars!”

Marcus’s voice trembled from the other end of the line.

“Julian used your master security keycard, sir. The one you gave him last month during the audit. The system registered your biometric override code at exactly ten o'clock this morning.”

Daniel’s mind raced back to the rehearsal dinner the previous evening. Julian had bumped into him, spilling a glass of red wine right down the front of Daniel’s dress shirt. In the ensuing chaos of apologies and napkin wiping, Julian had spent nearly a minute embracing him in a false display of camaraderie. That was when the keycard had been lifted from his inner pocket.

Daniel clenched his fist so tightly his knuckles turned white.

“He lifted it off me yesterday. Block the receiving bank internationally. Call Interpol if you have to.”

Marcus sighed heavily.

“I tried, Daniel. The funds were immediately split into dozens of smaller cryptocurrency wallets the second they hit the primary account. They're untraceable by standard banking protocols.”

Daniel slowly lowered the phone, the reality of the financial ambush settling over him like a shroud of black iron. He had spent ten years building his tech firm from a tiny garage startup into an industry giant, and now, in a matter of seconds, an inside job orchestrated by his closest confidant and his deceitful fiancée had stripped him bare.

Lily tugged gently on the hem of his tuxedo jacket, pulling him out of his dark spiral.

“Daddy? Are we poor now?”

Daniel looked down into his daughter's wide, worried eyes and felt a fierce surge of protective love that outweighed every dollar he had just lost. He knelt down, wrapping both arms around her small frame and holding her tightly against his chest.

Daniel replied, his voice steady and resolute.

“No, sweetheart. We are not poor. We have each other. Money can be replaced; family cannot.”

Sarah and the other bridesmaid exchanged emotional glances, clearly moved by the raw display of paternal devotion. Sarah cleared her throat softly, stepping closer with her phone still active in her hand.

Sarah spoke up hesitantly.

“Daniel, I might be able to help with tracking where those crypto wallets lead.”

Daniel looked up sharply, hope reigniting in his chest.

“How? You're in marketing, Sarah.”

Sarah tapped the screen, displaying a complex string of code.
