Chapter 13 - The Forged Signature

The words hung in the humid night air like a death sentence. Eleanor felt the ground seem to shift beneath her black heels as the full magnitude of the betrayal crashed down upon her. She had lived in this house for five years, trusting these people, believing she was an equal partner in the estate’s legacy, only to find out she had been nothing more than a convenient placeholder in a meticulously calculated financial trap.

“My signature?” Eleanor repeated, her voice shaking with suppressed fury. “That’s impossible. I never signed any transfer papers. I would never hand over my family’s heritage to a corporate shell company!”

Sarah didn’t flinch. She signaled with a slight tilt of her head to Clara, who immediately reached into her wet gray uniform pocket once more and pulled out a sleek, modern digital tablet. Eleanor stared at the glowing tablet screen, her breath hitching in her throat. The digital signature was flawless. Every curve, every loop matched her handwriting with terrifying precision. But she had never met that notary. She had never authorized a single cent of her personal holdings to be transferred.

“You hacked my biometric profile,” Eleanor whispered, her dark eyes flashing with lethal intent. “You used the security system upgrades from last month to steal my identity.”

“We prefer to call it administrative optimization,” Sarah replied smoothly, gesturing to the lead officer to step closer. “Officer, Ms. Vance is currently in possession of stolen estate property—specifically, the original security logs containing proof of the board’s authorization. I suggest you place her under arrest before she attempts to destroy the physical records.”

The lead officer hesitated, looking uncertainly between Eleanor, Sarah, and the crying baby in Sarah’s arms. “Ma’am, I can’t just arrest someone based on a corporate tablet without a warrant—'’

Before the officer could finish his sentence, the heavy iron side gate swung open with a loud bang, and a tall, imposing figure in a tailored dark suit stepped briskly onto the patio, holding a Federal badge high in the air.
