Chapter 12

The morning sun broke over the eastern horizon, painting the Manhattan skyline in brilliant shades of amber and gold. Inside the sleek boardroom of Vance-Sterling Enterprises, the atmosphere was thick with tension even before the market opened. Arthur Pendelton sat at the head of the mahogany table, looking immaculate in a tailored charcoal suit, checking his gold pocket watch with mounting irritation. The empty seat at the center of the table—Julian’s seat—remained vacant, which Arthur interpreted as a cowardly surrender.
"Well," Arthur announced to the nervous executives seated around him, leaning forward with a self-satisfied smirk. "It appears our young prodigal CEO has finally realized he’s out of his depth. By noon, we will formally vote to strip him of his voting shares and absorb his personal trust into the main portfolio."
Before any of the board members could respond, the heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom swung open with a sharp, echoing bang. Julian walked in, flanked not by security or lawyers, but by Clara, who wore a sharp, tailored white pantsuit that commanded absolute attention. Behind them strode two federal agents in dark suits, their badges gleaming coldly in the morning light.
Arthur stood up instantly, his face draining of its customary color, his aristocratic composure cracking for the first time in decades. "What is the meaning of this? This is a private corporate meeting! Security, remove these—"
"Save your breath, Arthur," Julian interrupted, his voice cutting across the room like a razor. He stopped at the edge of the table, resting his hands on the polished wood. "Security isn't going to answer your call today. Federal investigators have already seized your personal accounts and frozen the Cayman shell entities you used to hide the stolen genetic patents twenty years ago."
One of the federal agents stepped forward, stepping past Arthur to lay a set of cold steel handcuffs directly onto the mahogany table in front of the chairman. "Arthur Pendelton, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, securities fraud, and the deliberate suppression of life-saving medical treatments resulting in criminal negligence. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
The remaining board members gasped, scrambling backward away from Arthur as if he carried a plague. Arthur stared at the handcuffs, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly as the terrifying reality of his downfall crashed down around him in real time. He looked across the table at Julian, seeing not the vulnerable young heir he had tried to manipulate for decades, but a man who had finally reclaimed his legacy.

"You can't do this," Arthur whispered hoarsely, his hands trembling as the agents stepped closer to take him into custody. "The company will collapse without my leadership."
"The company survived long before you arrived, Arthur, and it will finally thrive now that the rot has been cut out," Julian replied coldly. He turned his back on the disgraced chairman, walking over to the large windows overlooking the city, where the morning bell was just beginning to ring across Wall Street.
