Chapter 7: The Message

Returning to the estate, Arthur found Leo sitting quietly in the library, drawing a picture of a house with three people standing outside—a grandfather, a mother, and a boy. The sight brought a sharp pang to Arthur’s heart.

Before Arthur could speak, his personal phone rang from an unknown number. He answered and placed it on speaker, signaling Julian to trace the call.

"Mr. Sterling," a smooth, cold voice spoke from the receiver. "I see you have been visiting your daughter’s former workplace."

"Victor Vane," Arthur said, forcing his voice to remain steady. "Where is my daughter?"

"She is safe, for now," Victor replied smoothly. "She holds something that belongs to my organization. You have retrieved it, I presume. Bring the ledger to the abandoned docklands at Le Havre by tomorrow evening. Come alone, or the boy will grow up without a mother or a grandfather."

The line went dead.
