Chapter 5: The Stained Floor

Returning to the house alone to pack their essentials, Ryan felt suffocated. He stared at the kitchen floor. The dropped clipboard, his black duffel bag, the scattered orange pills still resting on the white marble. It looked like a crime scene. It was a crime scene.
He grabbed a towel and cleaner, got down on his hands and knees, and scrubbed the floor until his muscles burned. He wasn't just cleaning up the physical mess; he was trying to scrub away the traumatic memories.
But as he looked around the pristine, cold walls, he realized a house is just a structure. The home he needed to build was within Sarah and Leo. He packed three suitcases. They would never sleep in this toxic house again.
