Chapter 6: A House Divided
David formally cut ties with his mother. The confrontation was brief but brutal. Beatrice sat in her pristine mansion, sipping tea, expecting her son to crawl back. Instead, David placed a copy of the security tape on her coffee table. ""You left my world in the dark,"" he said, his voice devoid of emotion. ""You will never see her again. You will never see me again."" Beatrice tried to manipulate him, crying fake tears, but David just walked out. Returning to Clara, he broke down. Clara held him, realizing that in order to protect their daughter, her husband had to orphan himself. They were truly a united front now, battered but unbreakable.
