By morning, the video had leaked. Clara hadn't intended to post it publicly, but a diner at the adjacent table had recorded the altercation from another angle and posted it to TikTok. Within hours, it had ten million views. The internet dubbed Beatrice “Monster Mother-in-Law.” News vans parked outside Clara’s suburban home. Inside, the atmosphere was suffocating. Clara’s husband, David—Beatrice’s son—had just rushed home from a business trip. He was a man caught between the woman who raised him and the family he built. “She’s my mother, Clara. A slap? In public?” David paced the living room. Clara looked at him, her eyes dark with exhaustion. She didn’t yell. She just handed him her phone. “Watch it, David. Listen to your mother call your traumatized daughter ‘whiny’ after leaving her in the dark. Choose your side right now, because I have already chosen mine.”
