Chapter 12: The Final Gambit

Marcus Vance’s study smelled faintly of pipe tobacco and old parchment, but today the atmosphere was distinctly urgent. Marcus paced behind his mahogany desk as Julian and Clara laid out the fresh batch of retaliatory personal liens and frozen account alerts Victoria had unleashed overnight.

"Typical Victoria playbook," Marcus muttered, shaking his head in disgust as he reviewed the digital printouts. "When she can't win through corporate strategy, she resorts to financial terrorism. She’s trying to drain your personal reserves so you’re forced to accept a settlement that lets her retain her personal estate and hidden offshore accounts."

"We aren't accepting any settlements," Julian stated firmly, his arms crossed over his chest, his grey suit sharp and unyielding. "We want a complete, uncompromising forensic audit of every asset she holds, public and private."

Marcus stopped pacing and looked at them with a grim, knowing expression. "If we push for a total forensic audit, Victoria will be forced to testify under oath regarding the original acquisition of her personal wealth. But to trigger that deposition, we need one final piece of evidence—proof that she personally signed off on the falsified municipal trust documents back in the sixties."

Clara’s eyes lit up with sudden realization. She opened her canvas tote bag and pulled out a smaller, leather-bound ledger she had retrieved from the deepest recess of the municipal archives before her furlough.

"When I was processing the auxiliary files," Clara said, carefully opening the brittle pages of the ledger, "I found the original board registry from the Vance Holding Co.’s founding subsidiary. It wasn't signed by her father-in-law or her husband. It was countersigned by Victoria herself, using her maiden name, as corporate secretary at age twenty-two."

Marcus leaned over the desk, staring down at the faded signature in disbelief. "Good lord," Marcus whispered, a triumphant smile breaking across his weathered face. "That signature completely blows her plausible deniability out of the water. She didn't just inherit the fraud—she co-authored it."

With this final, smoking-gun piece of evidence, the game was entirely over. Victoria’s elaborate house of cards was poised for absolute collapse.

"Let's go," Julian said, his dark eyes burning with quiet, righteous determination. "We take this straight to the Attorney General’s office right now. No negotiations, no warnings. Just justice."
