Chapter 14 - The Final Severance

Mark smashed through the wooden maintenance door, firing three rapid shots into the ceiling. The loud bangs echoed like cannon fire inside the metal warehouse.

The henchman lunged for his weapon, but Beatrice fired from behind Mark with terrifying precision, dropping him instantly with a shot to the shoulder. The lead mercenary grabbed Elena, hauling her up as a human shield with a blade pressed to her throat.

“Back up! Both of you, or she bleeds out right now!” the man bellowed, his eyes darting frantically between Mark and Beatrice.

Elena gasped for air, fighting the blinding waves of labor pain. She looked directly at Mark, her eyes burning not with fear, but with fierce determination. “Mark... don't look at him... shoot!”

Instead of pleading, Elena drove her elbow backward into the man’s solar plexus with all her remaining strength, stepping down on his boot with her heel. The mercenary faltered, blade slipping from her neck.

Mark closed the distance in a split second, knocking the blade aside and driving a brutal punch into the man's jaw. The mercenary crashed onto the concrete, knocked unconscious.

Elena fell forward into Mark’s arms, crying out as a tremendous contraction seized her entire body. “Mark! It’s coming! Now!”
