Chapter 13 - Bloodline Hunt

Rain pelted the cracked asphalt of the abandoned industrial docks at the edge of the city. Mark drove Beatrice’s heavily armored town car, engine screaming as he followed the GPS coordinates Beatrice had silently extracted from Erica’s confiscated phone.

Beside him, Beatrice loaded an automatic pistol with hands that showed no trace of age or tremor. “I didn't think you had it in you to pull a trigger, Grandmother,” Mark remarked coldly, hands gripping the steering wheel.

“There are things you do not know about how this family survived, Mark,” she replied, eyes fixed on the rain-slicked windshield. “Erica was always rotten, like her father before her. But Elena carries something vital. Not just an heir, but a signed codicil that strips Erica’s entire branch of the family from ever touching a cent.”

They arrived at warehouse forty-two. Mark killed the headlights, coasting into the darkness behind stacks of rusted shipping containers.

Inside, Elena was bound to a rusted iron chair beneath a single hanging bulb. Her labor had restarted in earnest, contractions bending her double as sweat dripped onto the concrete. Standing over her was Erica’s trusted lieutenant, preparing a lethal dose of potassium chloride.

“Make it look like heart failure from shock,” the man instructed his henchman. “Then we dump her in the bay.”
