Chapter 2: The Black Card

Victoria opened her mouth to unleash a venomous laugh, signaling for the private security guards near the perimeter to throw Leo out onto the sidewalk. But before she could speak, hurried footsteps clicked sharply against the marble floor.
Mr. Julian Montgomery, the general manager of the Grand Galleria Plaza, came rushing through the velvet partitions. His tailored charcoal suit was immaculate, yet the glistening sheen of cold sweat across his forehead and his unbuttoned collar betrayed sheer, unadulterated panic. Julian completely bypassed Victoria’s outstretched, commanding hand, pushed past the gawking socialites, and stopped directly before Leo.
Bowing his head in deep, trembling reverence, Julian extended both hands forward. Resting across his palms was a heavy, custom-forged matte-black titanium credit card, laser-engraved with an intricate gold family crest and unembossed micro-circuitry.
"Mr. Vance," Julian gasped, struggling to steady his ragged breathing. "The emergency board acquisition has cleared through the registry. The entire deed to the Grand Galleria Plaza—including this boutique—has been finalized under your private entity. Here is your unlimited sovereign card."
The boutique went so dead silent that the faint hum of the central cooling unit sounded like a roaring turbine.
Victoria’s mocking smirk disintegrated in real time. Her jaw hung loose, her painted lips parting in utter shock. "Mr. Montgomery, what is this absurd prank? Look at him! He is a filthy, grease-stained day laborer!"
Julian turned around with eyes ablaze with furious authority. "Mrs. Sterling, you are addressing Mr. Leo Vance—sole heir, chief structural engineer, and majority shareholder of Vance Global Industries. He owns the very ground upon which you are standing. I strongly advise you to hold your tongue before you destroy your family entirely."
Chloe gasped aloud, clutching her gold dress and instinctively stumbling backward into the crowd to distance herself. Clara stood frozen in shock, her hazel eyes wide with pure bewilderment. The gentle man who had shared five-dollar bodega coffee and cheap breakfast bagels with her on the street curb every morning was the elusive titan whose family empire dominated the New York skyline.
Leo calmly took the heavy black card from Julian’s trembling hands and slipped it into the breast pocket of his work shirt. He then extended the crumpled hundred-dollar bill back toward Victoria’s frozen hand.

"Keep this, Victoria," Leo spoke with razor-sharp clarity. "You are going to need every single cent when your family's brand undergoes a forensic federal audit tomorrow morning."
Victoria’s face lost every ounce of color, her knees trembling beneath her designer hemline.
