Chapter 13: The Grand Exposure

The ballroom outside was descending into chaos as murmurs rippled through the crowd. The large projector screens mounted on either side of the stage, intended to display corporate achievements and foundation milestones, suddenly flickered. The presentation software crashed, replaced instantly by a secure federal broadcast interface streaming the contents of the weathered leather ledger directly to every smartphone, tablet, and monitor in the room.

Eleanor stood near the stage, her face draining of all color as she stared up at the financial records scrolling across the massive screens—millions in embezzled funds, offshore accounts, and documented evidence of systematic fraud bearing her signature. The guests began whispering loudly, casting shocked glances toward the matriarch.

Michael and Elena walked out of the study and into the grand ballroom, flanked by federal agents. The crowd parted instantly, the opulent atmosphere giving way to the cold, undeniable reality of a criminal indictment.

Eleanor spun around, her eyes locking onto Michael with a look of pure, unadulterated hatred. "You traitorous bastard," she hissed, stepping forward despite the crowd watching her every move. "You destroyed everything your father and I built. For what? For a stranger who walked into your life and whispered pretty lies?"

"No, Mother," Michael said, his voice ringing clear and steady across the silent ballroom. "We destroyed a house of cards built on lies and cruelty. You thought you could bury Clara, bury the truth, and control everyone around you forever. Those days are over."

Before Eleanor could reply, two federal agents stepped between them, holding out an official warrant for her arrest, signed by a federal judge less than an hour prior.

"Eleanor Vance, you are under arrest for securities fraud, embezzlement, and corporate obstruction of justice," David Vance announced clearly, reading the charges as the flashbulbs of hidden journalists began to pop from the back of the room.

Eleanor did not flinch. She stood tall, her diamonds glittering under the harsh lights, maintaining a mask of defiant pride to the very end as the cuffs were placed around her wrists. She allowed the agents to lead her away, casting one final, venomous look back at Elena and Michael.

As the heavy oak doors of the estate closed behind Eleanor and her escort, the heavy silence in the ballroom broke into a chaotic wave of reporters shouting questions and guests scrambling toward the exits.
