Chapter 8: Inside the Federal Vehicle

The interior of the federal sedan smelled faintly of leather and coffee, providing a jarring sanctuary from the chaotic street outside. Chloe slid across the plush seat, pulling her navy blue suit jacket tighter around her to hide the dirt and tears on the fabric. Julian climbed in beside her, his chest still heaving slightly as he pulled the heavy flash drive from his pocket and placed it gently on the center console between them. Marcus Vance watched the drive with narrowed eyes before shifting his gaze to his sister. He wore a tailored gray suit with a quiet authority that mirrored Evelyn Carter’s, but his eyes held warmth and protective instinct that the corporate matriarch utterly lacked.
"You look like you just survived a war zone, Chloe," Marcus said softly, though his hands remained steady on the vehicle's secure comms console. "When your emergency ping came through my private terminal, I didn't think you'd actually pull off an extraction from the Carter mainframe."
"Evelyn didn't expect us to fight back," Chloe replied, her voice steady and clear as she handed the flash drive directly into her brother's outstretched palm. "She used intimidation, physical force, and financial threats for decades because nobody ever stood up to her. But the data on that drive details every single illicit offshore account, the political payoffs, and the suppressed whistleblower settlements from the past ten years."
Marcus plugged the flash drive into the secure laptop built into the vehicle’s dashboard, typing a rapid bio-metric authorization code. A series of encrypted directories immediately populated the screen, displaying thousands of confidential files with a crimson security classification stamp. Marcus whistled quietly, scrolling through the cascading rows of financial records.
"This is massive," Marcus murmured, genuine awe in his voice. "With this level of verified evidence, we don't just hold Evelyn; we dismantle the entire executive board and every regulatory official on their payroll. But you realize what this means for you, right? Once this goes public, you become public enemy number one to some of the most powerful people in the country."
May you like
Julian looked up, his jaw set. "She already made that choice when she stood up to Evelyn in that office, Mr. Vance. There's no going back to the way things were."
Marcus looked between them, recognizing the unbreakable bond forged in the fires of their shared defiance. He nodded slowly, securing the flash drive in a heavy titanium lockbox beneath the seat. "Then we move fast. We bypass local magistrates and take this straight to the federal judge who signed the initial warrant. We file the indictments within the hour."
