Chapter 4: The Safety Deposit Box**

The First Central Depository downtown was quiet, preserved in cold marble and iron bars. Arthur and Julian stood side by side before the rows of steel lockers in the basement vault.

The clerk inserted his master key, and Arthur turned the small brass key Thomas had given him. The lock clicked with a resonant clatter. Box 414 slid out.

Inside lay a single manila envelope and an old audio cassette tape.

Julian pulled out the contents. The envelope contained medical records, legal notices, and bank receipts dated October 1999. Arthur picked up the documents, his heart pounding in his ears.

"What is all this?" Julian asked, his voice tight.

"These are building inspection reports for the Northside Community Clinic," Arthur read, disbelief lacing his voice. "The clinic didn't have structural failure. The land sat directly on top of the proposed municipal railway expansion."

Julian leaned in, reading over his brother's shoulder. "Dad bought the surrounding land through a shell company. He fabricated safety violations against Dr. Green’s clinic to force them out, so he could sell the parcel to the city for ten times its value."

"And when Dr. Green threatened to expose him," Arthur whispered, turning to the last legal document, "Dad used his legal team to revoke Dr. Green’s medical license, claiming malpractice."

Julian backed away from the table, shaking his head. "He ruined an innocent man’s life, stripped healthcare from thousands of low-income families, and built the foundation of our family fortune on a lie."
