Chapter 10: An Unexpected Ally**

That evening, Arthur arrived home exhausted. The mansion was quiet. He found Eleanor sitting on the terrace overlooking the garden, watching the sunset.
He walked over and sat beside her, bracing himself for another argument. Instead, Eleanor reached out and gently took his hand.
"Lily came to me this afternoon," Eleanor said softly, her eyes glistening. "She asked why Grandpa had a sad secret behind his painting."
Arthur looked down. "What did you tell her?"
"I told her that sometimes people make big mistakes because they are afraid, but that her father was trying to fix it," Eleanor whispered. She turned to face him, her eyes clear and resolute. "I was terrified, Arthur. I was worried about what society would say, about our social standing, about losing what we worked for."
"And now?" Arthur asked.
"Now I realize that character isn't built by protecting a hollow reputation," Eleanor said, a tender smile touching her lips. "I married you because you were a good man, Arthur. Don't let my fear turn you into your father. Do whatever it takes."
