Chapter 6: The Anatomy of a Heist

The idea sounded impossible, bordering on sheer recklessness, yet as Elena looked back at the sleeping form of her daughter, impossibility ceased to be a valid argument. If the Sterling family was willing to weaponize the legal system to steal a child, playing by their rules was a guaranteed path to defeat.

"How do we get into the vault?" Elena asked, her voice steady and resolute.

Marcus let out a dry, humorless chuckle. "You don't just walk in, Elena. Security at the tower is biometric, backed by private contractors who don't ask questions. But there is a blind spot. Every Tuesday night at midnight, the primary server undergoes a hard reboot for system updates. For exactly twelve minutes, the digital locks on the executive floor revert to a manual administrative override."

"Which requires a physical key card," Elena deduced.

"Which Julian keeps in his desk drawer at his downtown penthouse, not at the office," Marcus added, pulling a small notebook from his pocket and sketching a crude floor plan. "He’s hosting a charity gala this Friday night. The penthouse will be entirely empty except for the domestic staff, who always gather in the rear kitchen during the catered service."

Elena studied the sketch meticulously, committing every line, entry point, and hallway to memory. "I can get into the penthouse while he's at the gala. I know the security codes; they haven't changed since we lived there."

"It's dangerous, Elena," Marcus cautioned, laying a comforting hand on her shoulder. "If you’re caught, they won’t just call the police. They’ll have you committed under the very false pretenses they’ve been drafting for months."

"I have nothing left to lose," she replied softly, looking over at Clara. "They already took my marriage, my peace of mind, and my reputation. I refuse to let them take my child."

Marcus studied her for a long moment, recognizing the absolute resolve in her eyes. Slowly, he reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a small, unassuming flash drive, placing it gently on the table. "This contains a bypass script I wrote before I left the company. Plug it into the executive terminal in Beatrice’s office after you get the files. It will download the encrypted ledger directly without triggering the silent alarms."
