Chapter 9

Two months had passed since the chaotic night of the Aspen charity gala. The mountain air was crisp and smelled of pine and melting snow as spring finally settled over Colorado. Inside the newly renovated facilities department at Vance Capital, Elena Flores organized her schedule with a quiet confidence she had never known before. Dressed in a sharp, professional blazer rather than her old maid uniform, she coordinated maintenance teams, managed supply orders, and oversaw corporate events with an efficiency that earned the immediate respect of every department head.

Her son, Mateo, was thriving at his new preparatory academy, spending his afternoons in the state-of-the-art computer labs preparing for his college entrance examinations. The constant, crushing weight of financial survival had been lifted from their shoulders, replaced by a stable, secure future built on dignity and hard work.

During her mid-morning rounds, Elena stepped out onto the executive terrace to catch her breath and enjoy the sweeping view of the Denver skyline. The glass-and-steel towers gleamed under a brilliant blue sky, a stark contrast to the dark, uncertain days when she had knelt on a ballroom floor in front of sneering elites.

Julian Vance stepped onto the terrace shortly after, holding a pair of hot coffees. He offered one to Elena with a polite, respectful smile. "How are the new facilities schedules working out, Elena? I heard the logistics department has finally stopped complaining about supply bottlenecks."

Elena accepted the coffee, her face breaking into a genuine, radiant smile. "They haven't complained once this week, Mr. Vance. It turns out that when people are treated with basic respect and given the right tools, things tend to run smoothly."

"Julian, please," he corrected gently, leaning against the glass railing. "I think after everything we've been through, we've moved past formal titles."

"Alright... Julian," she said, testing the name with a soft chuckle. "I still find it hard to believe this is my life now. Sometimes I wake up expecting to hear my alarm go off for the early morning cleaning shift at the country club."

May you like

"That life is behind you," Julian said, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "You earned your place here through resilience, honesty, and grace under fire. Never let anyone make you feel like you didn't deserve every bit of this stability."

Elena nodded slowly, feeling a deep sense of closure wash over her. She knew that the world outside these glass towers could still be cold and unforgiving, but for the first time, she felt entirely equipped to face whatever came her way.
