Chapter 3

The flashing red and blue lights of the police cruiser painted eerie shadows across the marble pillars of the grand estate. Inside, the glittering gala had transformed into a sterile holding ground for whispers and scandal. Two uniformed officers stood near the staircase, waiting for Julian to finish his preliminary statement before escorting Victoria out through the service entrance to avoid the aggressive flashbulbs of the paparazzi gathering outside the main gates.
Elena sat quietly in a small private office off the main hall, a warm cup of chamomile tea cradled between her hands. Her fingers were still shaking slightly, but the overwhelming terror had subsided, replaced by a quiet, exhausting relief. Julian walked into the small room, closing the heavy mahogany door behind him to block out the chaotic noise of the departing guests. He pulled out a leather chair and sat across from her, his authoritative demeanor softening just enough to show genuine human empathy.
"You're safe now, Elena," Julian said quietly, resting his elbows on his knees. "The police have the security footage, and my legal team will ensure that Victoria's accusations are officially expunged from any record. No employer will ever look at you with suspicion because of tonight."
"Thank you, Mr. Vance," Elena whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I... I don't know why she hated me so much. I always did my work, kept my head down, and never caused any trouble. Why would someone with everything try to destroy someone who has nothing?"
"Greed and fear wear expensive clothes, Elena," Julian replied, staring into his own empty cup. "Victoria has been living far beyond her means for years. Her husband’s firm is currently under federal investigation for securities fraud, and her own personal debts are staggering. She insured that diamond necklace for five hundred thousand dollars three weeks ago. If the necklace was reported stolen by a staff member, she intended to collect the payout and quietly flee the country before her creditors seized her assets."
Elena absorbed the harsh reality of Julian's words. It had never been personal against her; she was simply a convenient, disposable pawn in a high-stakes game of financial survival. That realization brought a different kind of sadness—the realization of how fragile a working person's life was when exposed to the casual cruelty of the ultra-wealthy.

"And what happens to her now?" Elena asked, looking up into Julian's serious eyes.
"She faces the consequences of her own design," Julian said firmly. "There are lines you don't cross, and destroying an innocent human being to save your bank account is the final boundary. Justice will take its course."
