Chapter 8: Community of Courage

Recovery was not a solitary journey. One evening, a knock at the front door revealed Captain Harris and the entire engine company standing on the porch. They brought armfuls of groceries, homemade casseroles, and wide, warm smiles.
Mark stepped forward, carrying a wooden hand-carved plaque showing the department crest. ""We made this for you, Clara. To the toughest civilian this city has ever seen.""
Clara laughed through tears, inviting them inside. The small living room was soon filled with loud laughter, stories from the station, and shared warmth. Watching Ryan smile genuine, unburdened smiles surrounded by his brothers in arms, Clara realized that bravery wasn't about being fearless—it was about standing together when fear arrived.
