Chapter 10: Returning to the Station

The day came for Ryan to return to active duty. As he stood in front of the hallway mirror, tucking in his navy blue uniform shirt, he felt a flutter of nerves in his chest. It was natural—returning to the firehouse after facing his worst nightmare was a hurdle he had to cross.
Clara walked up behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her chin on his back.

He turned around, kissed her softly on the lips, and grabbed his gear bag. ""I’ll be home for dinner at six. I promise.""
