Chapter 3: The Ghost in the Nursery**

Later that evening, the Vance estate stood like an empty mausoleum atop the coastal cliffs. Julian wandered into the quiet nursery. Two empty white cribs remained draped in soft blue blankets, untouched since the horrific morning three weeks earlier when his twin boys, Noah and Liam, never woke up.
Claire, his late wife, had been blamed by everyone in town. Evelyn had systematically whispered toxic lies into the ears of their neighbors, portraying Claire as an exhausted, neglectful young mother unfit for the family legacy. The suffocating shame and grief had driven Claire to take her own life just four days after the funeral—leaving behind only a heartbroken note pleading her innocence.
Julian collapsed into the rocking chair, burying his face in his hands. He remembered Claire’s desperate pleas: *“Julian, something is wrong in this house. The milk smells metallic. Your mother watches me like a hawk.”*
He hadn't listened. He had believed his mother was simply overbearing, not a calculating predator determined to maintain total control over his wealth, his marriage, and his life.

"I’m so sorry, Claire," Julian wept into the quiet room. "I should have protected you."
