Chapter 11: The Verdict**
The jury deliberated for less than ninety minutes. When they filed back into the courtroom, the foreman handed the verdict sheet to the bailiff.
"On the first count of First-Degree Premeditated Murder in the death of Noah Vance, how do you find the defendant?" Judge Morales asked.
"Guilty," the foreman announced firmly.
"On the second count of First-Degree Premeditated Murder in the death of Liam Vance..."
"Guilty."
"On the third count of Manslaughter by Coercion and Obstruction of Justice in the death of Claire Vance..."
"Guilty."
Evelyn remained rigid, refusing to show emotion, though her jaw twitched violently. Judge Morales looked down from the bench with unyielding severity.
"Evelyn Vance, you have committed unspeakable atrocities against your own family under the guise of prestige. You are hereby sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, to be served at the maximum-security state penitentiary."

As Evelyn was led away through the side door, she looked back at Julian one last time. Julian did not look back; his eyes were fixed on the picture of Claire pinned inside his jacket lapel.
