Chapter 15

The morning sun washed over the sprawling green lawns of the newly established Oakhaven Family Sanctuary, casting a golden glow across the historic stone facade that had once stood as a fortress of secrets. The iron gates, now permanently locked open, welcomed visitors rather than keeping them out. The dark chapter of Robert Vance’s reign had concluded with a federal conviction and the complete restructuring of the estate into a charitable trust dedicated to supporting military families in transition.

Sarah and David stood on the front terrace, watching as Lily ran across the pristine grass, chasing a golden retriever they had adopted the previous month. The little girl wore a simple yellow sundress, her laughter carrying on the crisp morning breeze, completely free of the sorrow and fear that had marked their arrival at the manor months ago.

Colonel Vance walked up the stone steps, holding a final, neatly sealed official envelope bearing the Department of the Army insignia. He handed it to Sarah with a respectful nod.
