Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Shield

The morning sun broke through the heavy gray clouds, casting a sharp, golden beam of light across the polished mahogany table inside the Pentagon’s primary executive boardroom. Captain Loasing stood at rigid attention before the five-star generals seated around the dais, her dress uniform immaculate, her name tag gleaming brightly under the fluorescent lights. The red wine stain from the banquet had been thoroughly cleaned, leaving no trace of the humiliation Julian Vance had attempted to inflict just forty-eight hours prior.
The Chief of Staff rose from his leather chair, holding a velvet presentation box containing the silver oak leaf insignia of a Major. The room was utterly silent, filled only by the quiet hum of the secure ventilation system and the distant rumble of morning traffic along the Potomac.
“Captain Sarah Loasing,” the Chief of Staff began, his voice deep and resonant. “For exceptional valor, tactical brilliance, and unwavering integrity in the face of institutional corruption, you are hereby promoted to the rank of Major.”
He stepped forward, pinning the new silver insignia onto her shoulders with firm, respectful precision. The entire board of senior officers stood in unison, offering a synchronized, snapping salute that honored not just her rank, but the unbreakable code of honor she had defended against overwhelming odds.
Major Loasing returned the salute with crisp, flawless military form, her expression calm, restrained, and completely serene. The audio files that had been weaponized to destroy her career were now resting securely inside the National Archives as prime evidence in a sweeping federal indictment that would permanently dismantle the corrupt defense procurement rings.
Julian Vance and Colonel Henderson were already awaiting arraignment in a federal penitentiary three states away, their corporate allies scattering like shadows before the dawn of a transparent military audit. As the cameras flashed from the back of the boardroom to capture the historic promotion ceremony, Loasing caught her reflection in the dark, polished glass of the boardroom window.

Her name tag read LOASING. Her uniform was unblemished. Her record was permanently cleared. And as she looked out toward the horizon where the Pacific fleet was preparing for its next deployment under safe, uncompromised skies, she knew that no digital ghost or whispered lie would ever breach her perimeter again.
The door behind the dais swung slowly open, admitting a fresh stack of encrypted operational files for her review, and Major Loasing stepped forward to accept her next command without a single backward glance.
