Chapter 1 - The Broken Vows

The crystal chandelier above cast a cold, brilliant glow over the crowded ballroom, illuminating the polished mahogany floors and the American flag standing tall in the corner. Julian stood frozen at the altar, his crisp black tuxedo fitting impeccably, though it suddenly felt like a heavy suit of armor. Next to him, Clara clutched her lace-trimmed white gown, her knuckles turning white as the silence stretched across the room. Just a moment ago, the atmosphere had been filled with polite applause and soft clinking glasses. Now, the air was entirely sucked out of the room by a seven-year-old boy. Leo, Julian’s son, gripped the silver microphone with trembling small hands, his black suit and matching bow tie contrasting sharply with his pale, tear-streaked face.
Julian stared down at his son, his mind racing to catch up with reality. He took a half-step forward, his voice tight and trembling with a mix of public humiliation and rising panic.
“What are you talking about, Leo?” Julian asked, his tone sharp yet laced with utter confusion. “Drop the mic right now. This isn't funny.”
Leo didn't drop it. Instead, the boy let out a ragged breath, his lower lip quivering as he glared directly at Clara.
“You’re lying to everyone, Dad,” Leo cried out, his voice cracking over the high-end sound system. “She doesn’t love you. She only wants the house!”
Clara gasped, stepping back as if she had been physically struck. Tears instantly welled in her eyes, transforming her picture-perfect bridal look into a portrait of absolute horror. Beside her, Julian’s mother, Eleanor, gasped sharply, her hand flying to cover her mouth in sheer disbelief. She turned her head, glaring daggers at Julian before snapping her gaze back to the groom.
“Julian, what did you tell that child?” Eleanor hissed, her voice trembling with restrained fury. “What kind of household have you been running behind our backs?”
“Nothing! I told him nothing!” Julian protested, looking desperately around the room at the sea of judging eyes belonging to family members, business partners, and lifelong friends.
Leo ignored the escalating chaos entirely. With agonizing slowness, his thumb reached out and tapped the glowing screen of his black smartphone. A single audio file sat at the top of the display, bearing a bizarre, encrypted title that made Julian’s blood run instantly cold.

“Listen,” Leo whispered into the microphone, his thumb hovering right over the play button.
