Chapter 12 - The Moonlight Ambush

The shadows in the grand foyer shifted as a heavy silhouette rounded the corner, a tactical flashlight sweeping across the blood-spattered marble floor before fixing directly on Julian’s stance near the staircase. The operative, clad in black military-grade gear and wearing a reinforced ballistic vest, snapped his submachine gun upward with lightning-fast reflexes.

"Target sighted in the foyer!" the operative barked into his shoulder mic, his finger tightening on the trigger.

Julian didn't hesitate. With explosive force, he hurled the heavy brass candelabra straight at the man’s face. The massive metal object struck the operative squarely across his tactical helmet with a deafening clang, knocking him off balance and sending him stumbling backward into the shattered remains of a glass display case.

Before the guard could recover, Julian closed the distance in two massive strides, driving a brutal right hook directly into the man’s jaw. The operative slumped to the floor, instantly unconscious, his weapon clattering across the polished marble.

Julian snatched the submachine gun off the floor, flicking the safety off with his thumb, just as heavy footsteps echoed from the eastern corridor. Two more operatives emerged into the foyer, weapons raised and ready to fire.

"Drop your weapons!" Julian roared, leveling the rifle barrel dead center at the lead operative’s chest, his voice vibrating with an intensity that made both men freeze in their tracks.

"You think you can fight an entire corporate security apparatus, Julian?" a cold, synthesized voice crackled from the tactical radio strapped to the fallen guard’s belt.

David’s voice came through the comms channel, crisp and mocking, as if he were sitting in an executive boardroom rather than watching a live thermal feed from a nearby command vehicle.

"It’s over, David," Julian spoke clearly into the receiver, his finger resting steadily on the trigger. "The master decryption key is secured. The federal regulators have already seized your offshore accounts in the Caymans. You're completely exposed."

A harsh laugh echoed through the radio static. "You naive fool, Julian. Do you really think a federal magistrate is going to touch a case involving classified government biometric surveillance contracts? Those servers downtown weren't just storing your little software patents; they were holding classified defense data. The moment you hand over that flash drive, you're committing treason, not whistleblowing."

Julian felt a cold shiver run down his spine. The conspiracy went deeper than corporate espionage—it reached into the dark corridors of national intelligence agencies that didn't care about corporate ethics or family betrayals.

"I don't care about your defense contracts," Julian replied, his voice dropping into a deadly whisper. "You touched my family. You destroyed my life. And I am going to make sure you spend the rest of your natural life behind bars."

Before David could respond over the comms, a blinding flash of white light filled the foyer from the grand arched windows facing the driveway, followed immediately by the roar of heavy diesel engines tearing through the estate gates.
