Chapter 6 - The Maid of Honor’s Confession

Sarah didn't look like a hardened criminal. In her champagne-colored bridesmaid gown with the chiffon skirt dragging in the oil-stained puddles, she looked like a tragic figure from a gothic romance. Yet, the cold calculation in her hazel eyes sent a shiver straight down Daniel’s spine.
"Don't take another step, Officer," Sarah said smoothly, her voice echoing off the low concrete ceiling. Her thumb remained hovering millimeters above the execution key. "One click, and every patent, client contract, and payroll file Daniel Vance owns vanishes into the ether. You'll be bankrupt before sunset."
Daniel stepped out from behind Officer Hayes, his fists clenched so tightly his fingernails broke the skin of his palms. "Sarah. Why? What did I ever do to you?"
Sarah let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "It’s nothing personal, Daniel. You're a self-made man, a tech visionary. But you’re too trusting. You fell for Elena’s doe-eyed routine in less than a month. You never bothered to look into her past—or mine."
"Your past?" Daniel demanded, taking a slow step forward despite the warning gesture from the security guard.
"We grew up in the same foster home," Sarah said, her expression hardening as bitterness washed over her features. "Elena and I. We spent our entire childhood watching rich men like you build empires while women like us scrubbed floors. We planned this execution down to the second. The wedding was never real, Daniel. It was just a distraction stunt to get you inside the chapel while our offshore shell companies legally absorbed your corporate holding assets."
Officer Hayes kept his weapon trained on her chest. "Drop the keyboard, ma'am. You're talking about grand larceny and corporate espionage. That's a federal penitentiary offense."
"Try twenty years," Sarah smiled, her eyes gleaming with adrenaline. "And the best part? Even if you arrest me right now, the automated script is already running. The final transfer packet is uploading to a server in the Cayman Islands as we speak."

Daniel’s breath hitched. He lunged forward with explosive speed, diving across the hood of the SUV just as Sarah slammed her fist down onto the enter key.
