Chapter 5 - The Parking Garage Prowler

The afternoon sun beat down mercilessly on the asphalt of the St. Jude’s chapel parking lot. Daniel gripped his phone, watching the real-time location tracker of the banking breach bounce erratically across the digital map. The signal wasn't coming from the chapel, nor was it coming from the surrounding streets. It was coming from directly beneath them.

"The underground parking garage," Daniel muttered, his eyes narrowing as he looked toward the concrete ramp leading down into the shadows.

Officer Hayes unclipped his radio, speaking in a low, urgent tone to dispatch backup units. "Stay back, Mr. Vance. This isn't just a domestic dispute anymore. If someone is tapping into enterprise-level servers, we're dealing with professional cybercriminals."

Daniel nodded, but his paternal instincts overrode his caution. He couldn't just sit in the car while someone systematically dismantled his life’s work. He cracked open the rear door to check on Sophie. She was curled up on the leather seat, fast asleep with her thumb tucked gently against her cheek, exhausted from the emotional terror of the day.

Closing the door as quietly as possible, Daniel turned back to the security officer. "I'm going down there with you."

"Sir, that’s highly irregular—"

"That's my company down there, Hayes. Move."

They descended the concrete ramp into the cool, dim expanse of the subterranean garage. The air smelled of exhaust fumes and damp cement. Rows of luxury vehicles sat in silence, their polished hoods reflecting the harsh fluorescent overhead tubes.

As they rounded the corner toward sector B, a low hum echoed off the concrete walls. It was the distinct sound of a portable satellite uplink generator.

Hrouched behind a black SUV sat a figure in a dark hoodie, furiously typing on a mechanical keyboard plugged directly into a ruggedized military-grade laptop. On the screen, lines of green code cascaded downward, unlocking the administrative firewall to Daniel’s primary corporate accounts.

"Freeze! Police security!" Officer Hayes shouted, drawing his sidearm and stepping out from behind a concrete pillar.

The hooded figure stopped typing instantly. Slowly, the person turned around, pulling down the fabric mask. It wasn't Marcus. It was Sarah, Elena’s sweet, soft-spoken maid of honor, grinning maniacally with a thumb poised directly over the "Execute Complete Eradication" button.
