Chapter 8: Confronting the Architect

Armed with digital proof, Beatriz did not hesitate. She marched back into the ballroom, her footsteps echoing like a drumbeat of judgment. The guests, still murmuring among themselves, fell instantly silent at the sight of the matriarch’s thunderous expression. Sofia, sensing the shift in the air, tried to stand and excuse herself to the powder room, but Beatriz’s voice cracked like a whip across the quiet room. "Sit down, Sofia." The command was absolute. Sofia froze, her knees buckling slightly as she sank back into her velvet chair, her face draining of all color.

Valeria stepped forward, the diamond necklace now safely secured around her neck once more, a brilliant armor against the deceit. She looked down at her aunt with a mixture of profound pity and icy fury. "You planted it in the maid's bag," Valeria said, her voice trembling not with weakness, but with the terrifying weight of realization. Sofia opened her mouth to protest, to invoke family honor and hurl insults, but Beatriz held up her tablet, displaying the crystal-clear freeze-frame of Sofia’s hands in the act of theft. The silence in the room became absolute. The glittering facade of aristocratic perfection shattered completely, leaving exposed the desperate desperation of a woman drowning in secret debts and hollow social pretensions.
