Chapter 9: The Boardroom

The board of directors was less understanding. Stocks were plummeting. The narrative of the unstable, runaway CEO was bad for business.
""You need to step down as CEO, at least temporarily,"" demanded Harrison, the board chairman. ""Your focus is compromised. You're bringing a bastard child into the public eye—""
""Stop right there,"" Arthur's voice cracked like a whip. The room fell dead silent. He stood up, towering over the table. ""Her name is Mia. She is my daughter. She is my sole heir. If any of you ever speak of her with anything less than absolute respect, I will personally ruin you.""
He threw a massive folder onto the table. ""These are my directives. I am restructuring the company. We are pulling funding from the luxury housing developments and reallocating it to the city's underfunded medical infrastructure. Specifically, cardiology wards in public hospitals.""
""That’s financial suicide!"" Harrison sputtered.
""It’s redemption,"" Arthur countered. ""If you don't like it, sell your shares. I'm buying.""
