Chapter 10: The Storm After the Rain

The door slammed shut behind Mark, leaving the diner silent save for the drumming of raindrops against the windowpanes.

Hannah’s legs suddenly felt like water. She gripped the edge of a nearby table to steady herself, her breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps.

David was by her side in an instant, his hand resting gently on her shoulder. ""Hannah. Look at me. He’s gone. He can't touch you here.""

Clara hurried out from the kitchen, wrapping her arms around Hannah in a fierce, maternal embrace. ""You handled that with incredible courage, sweetheart. You didn't shrink. You stood your ground.""

Hannah buried her face in Clara’s shoulder, letting out the adrenaline-fueled shakes that had seized her body. ""I was so scared he would try to take Lily.""

""He can't,"" a familiar voice echoed from the doorway.

Sarah Lin, Hannah’s attorney, walked into the diner, shaking the rain from her trench coat. She flashed a reassuring smile. ""Mr. Vance was served with the permanent custody injunction this morning. If he comes within fifty miles of you or Lily again, he won't just face the Oakhaven sheriff—he’ll face federal contempt charges.""

Hannah looked at the people standing around her: Clara, the wise matriarch; David, the steadfast protector; Sarah, the brilliant advocate. They were not bound by blood or legal contracts forged in coercion; they were bound by grace, mutual respect, and unconditional support.
