Chapter 10 - Dawn at the Estate

The morning sun broke over the iron gates of the Sterling estate, casting long, golden fingers across the manicured lawns that sparkled with the remnants of the autumn rain. Inside the grand foyer, the marble floor gleamed under the morning light, free of the tension that had gripped it just twenty-four hours before.
Leo stood by the front window wearing a fresh, pressed white shirt and dark trousers, his suit jacket draped neatly over the back of the entryway bench. He watched as a sleek black sedan pulled up the gravel driveway and parked near the grand mahogany entrance.
The rear door opened, and Elena Sterling stepped out. She looked tired, her dark hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders, but her eyes were clear and steady as she looked up at the house she had fought so hard to reclaim.
Leo pushed the heavy front door open before the driver could even reach for the handle. He stepped out onto the wide stone porch, the cool morning air filling his lungs.
Elena stopped at the bottom of the steps. She looked at her son—really looked at him—taking in the subtle lines of maturity etched around his eyes that hadn't been there when she left for the clinic weeks ago.
"Leo," she whispered, her voice cracking slightly as she dropped her small travel bag onto the gravel.
Leo walked down the stone steps one by one, stopping right in front of her. For the first time since the night in the ballroom, the frozen composure melted away, and he stepped into his mother’s arms, burying his face in the soft fabric of her coat.
"You came back," Leo mumbled against her shoulder, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist.
"I told you I would," Elena said, her voice thick with emotion as she held him close, her hands trembling slightly in his hair. "Julia called me from the federal magistrate's office an hour ago. She told me everything you did."
"I just did what you taught me," Leo said, pulling back to look up into her eyes with a quiet, fierce determination. "I protected our family."
Julia stepped out of the sedan behind Elena, holding a thick briefcase filled with the newly reissued corporate deeds and the court documents clearing the estate of all fraudulent liens. She offered the boy a small, exhausted, but genuine smile.
"The federal judge signed the emergency injunction at sunrise," Julia announced gently, walking up the steps to join them. "Sterling Logistics is officially under court-appointed trusteeship, and the primary holding trust has been fully restored to your name, Elena."
Elena kept one arm securely around Leo’s shoulders as she looked at her lawyer and lifelong friend. "And Arthur?"
"He’s being held without bail at the federal detention center downtown," Julia replied, her expression sobering. "Marcus is joining him in the adjacent cell. Vance & Sterling Capital is being dismantled piece by piece to satisfy the pension liabilities."
Elena closed her eyes for a moment, letting the heavy burden of the past several years finally slide from her shoulders. When she opened them again, the fear was entirely gone, replaced by an unshakable resolve.
"Then it’s over," Elena murmured.
"Not quite," a sharp voice interrupted from the edge of the driveway.
May you like
All three of them turned to see a figure standing by the iron gates, watching them with a cold, piercing gaze that sent a sudden chill through the morning air.
